Riverside Revival For #BetterEnvironment

On Saturday, May 11th 2024, MST Golf organised a river cleanup with Hara Makers at Sungai Keroh in Segambut. Aligned with our sustainability matters of Proper Waste Management, Climate Change Resiliency, Community Give Back and Uplifting, and Efficient Water Use, this initiative brought together 12 dedicated MST Golf staff volunteers and 19 volunteers from our staff’s circle of friends.

We kicked off the day with Lee Yoon from Hara Makers offering valuable insights into the river’s status. Unfazed by the task of navigating the river’s currents, our volunteers formed efficient lines, collaborating seamlessly to collect, pass, and dispose of waste from one side of the riverbank to the other. The gathered waste was sorted into fabric, plastic, e-waste, metal, ceramic, and mixed waste categories, and weighed accordingly, totaling over 183kg in just under an hour.

Water quality assessments conducted during the event revealed elevated levels of ammonia, signaling the alarming extent of river pollution. This experience deepened our understanding of river pollution and underscored the importance of effective waste management, fostering a greater appreciation for our precious water resources.

The event brought together 31 volunteers, collectively contributing 77.5 hours of volunteer work. Furthermore, by choosing the OPACK lunch option, packed in reusable and returnable containers, we prevented the use of 31 single-use containers.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to Hara Makers for their collaboration, as well as to all the dedicated MST Golf staff volunteers who generously devoted their time and energy to this impactful initiative.

“Hara Makers extends heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their dedication to cleaning Sungai Keroh. Together, we removed over 180 kg of trash, setting a new milestone in our ongoing efforts for environmental conservation. We applaud everyone involved and look forward to continued collaboration towards a cleaner, healthier environment.”
